Welcome to Chess. These Terms explain the agreement for using the game, its advertising and purchase features, and related support.
Chess is provided by Keshav Budhiraja, trading as Puzzler Games (“we”, “us”, or “our”). These Terms apply to the Chess Android app, package name com.puzzlergames.chess, and form an agreement between you and the operator identified in section 16.
By accepting these Terms or using Chess after having an opportunity to review them, you agree to them, subject to the eligibility requirements below. If you do not agree, do not use the game. Nothing in these Terms limits consumer rights or other protections that cannot lawfully be excluded.
1. Eligibility and agreement
Chess is intended for people aged 13 and older and is not directed to children under 13. You may use the game only where your use is permitted by applicable law and the requirements of Google Play.
You must have the legal capacity to enter into these Terms. People aged 13 to 17 may still be minors. If the law where you live requires a parent or legal guardian to agree on your behalf or authorise your use, that person must review and agree to these Terms before you use the game.
Parental or guardian agreement does not override platform restrictions, replace a legally required privacy-consent process, or permit data processing that the law prohibits. A higher minimum age may apply in your jurisdiction.
2. Your licence to play
Subject to these Terms, we grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use Chess on a supported device for your own non-commercial entertainment. The game is licensed, not sold.
This licence does not transfer ownership of the game's software, interface, progression, Celestial Pawn implementation, artwork, audio, visual effects, game systems, text, or other protected materials. Chess rules in the public domain remain available to everyone. Applicable open-source and third-party licences continue to govern the materials they cover.
3. Fair and acceptable use
Please use Chess lawfully and respect the game and its connected services. Except where an activity is permitted by applicable law or an applicable licence, you must not:
- Copy, redistribute, sell, impersonate, or present the game or its protected materials as your own.
- Modify, reverse engineer, decompile, or bypass technical protections in the game without authorisation.
- Manipulate purchases, falsify advertising completion, generate fraudulent impressions or clicks, or use exploits to obtain unearned hints or entitlements.
- Use automation, modified packages, unauthorised tools, or altered local data to abuse gameplay, rewards, advertising, purchases, or connected services.
- Introduce harmful code, gain unauthorised access, or interfere with the security or operation of the game or its providers.
- Infringe another person's rights, impersonate the developer, or misuse support channels for fraud or harassment.
Using privacy controls, declining optional advertisements or purchases, or exercising a legal right is not a breach of these Terms.
4. Local progress and virtual items
Chess does not require a game account. Progress and preferences are stored locally, and no account-based cloud-save service is provided. Android, device-transfer, or Google backup features may copy some app data under your device and account settings.
Progress may be lost if you clear app storage, uninstall the game, change devices, experience a device failure, manage a backup, or encounter a software problem. Recovery or transfer of local progress is not guaranteed.
Match results, trophies, achievements, unlocked matches, hints, advertising rewards, purchase entitlements, and similar features are virtual gameplay elements. They are not money, a financial asset, or property outside the game. They cannot be sold, transferred between players, traded, or redeemed for money or real-world goods. Their entertainment-only status does not remove mandatory rights relating to a paid purchase.
5. Gameplay, variants, and balance
Chess provides traditional chess play and may include original rules or special pieces, including the Celestial Pawn. Standard-chess Safe Mode is intended to provide a traditional rule set when enabled. The game may also include computer difficulties, local two-player play, learning features, authored puzzles, a Trophy Road, a Beyond Human arena, and related progression systems.
We may refine move validation, computer behaviour, difficulty, scoring, match structure, trophy requirements, rewards, promotion, special-piece behaviour, hints, progression, presentation, and feature availability to improve the game, address technical issues, or maintain balance. In-app rule explanations describe the gameplay behaviour of the version being used.
We will handle changes affecting paid features in accordance with applicable law and the description presented when you purchased them.
6. Advertisements and optional rewards
Chess may display banner and interstitial advertisements. Interstitial advertisements may appear at natural breaks, such as after a completed match or puzzle. The game may also offer optional rewarded advertisements for a described in-game benefit.
A rewarded advertisement normally grants its benefit only after the advertising provider confirms the required completion. Availability and delivery can depend on network access, ad inventory, consent choices, age-related settings, region, device conditions, and provider checks. We cannot guarantee that an advertisement will be available whenever requested. You may decline rewarded advertisements without losing access to core gameplay.
Advertisements and linked offers are supplied by third parties. Their appearance does not mean that we endorse an advertiser or guarantee its products, claims, or services. Any transaction with an advertiser is subject to that third party's terms. This does not exclude our own responsibilities under applicable law. You may report an advertisement you consider inappropriate or misleading.
7. Hints
Chess starts with five free hints. A completed rewarded advertisement may grant one additional hint. Where offered, Google Play also provides consumable packs of 10, 50, 135, or 250 hints.
A hint is assistance generated by the game and does not guarantee the best move, a win, a particular score, or error-free analysis. Hint balances and rewards are virtual items with no cash-out value. Unspent hints are stored as local progress and may be lost when that progress is cleared or unavailable.
8. In-app purchases, restoration, and refunds
Where available, Chess offers optional one-time in-app purchases through Google Play: a permanent Remove Ads entitlement and consumable packs of 10, 50, 135, or 250 hints. These products are not subscriptions.
Remove Ads removes banner advertisements and forced interstitial advertisements after the entitlement is confirmed. Optional rewarded advertisements remain available when you choose to receive their associated benefit.
The purchase screen and Google Play checkout display the applicable product, price, currency, tax, and payment information before you authorise payment. Availability and price may vary. You must be authorised to use the payment method and Google Play account involved.
Google Play processes payment. Chess receives purchase information needed to check purchase state, grant content, acknowledge or consume a purchase, prevent the same purchase token from being granted twice on the same local installation, and restore an eligible Remove Ads entitlement. Chess is a client-only app and does not use a Puzzler Games account or server to verify purchases.
To restore Remove Ads, use the same Google Play account used for the original purchase and the Restore Remove Ads option in Settings. An internet connection, working Google Play services, and a valid purchase record may be required. Restoring Remove Ads does not restore unrelated local progress or hint balances.
Hint packs are consumable. After a pack is granted, the purchase is consumed so the same product can be purchased again. Consumed hint packs are not restorable, and any remaining hints are part of device-local progress. Do not clear app storage or uninstall the game if you need to preserve an unspent local hint balance.
Pending purchases are not granted until Google Play reports them as purchased. A refunded, cancelled, reversed, or otherwise invalid purchase may lose its entitlement as permitted by law and platform rules.
If a purchase is not recognised, confirm that the device uses the purchasing Google Play account and contact gamespuzzler79@gmail.com with the purchase date and Google Play order reference. Do not send full card or bank details. Refunds and other remedies are subject to applicable law and Google Play's relevant rules. Nothing in these Terms makes a purchase non-refundable where the law requires a refund or limits rights concerning defective or misdescribed digital content.
9. Privacy, diagnostics, analytics, sharing, and third-party services
Our Privacy Policy explains local storage, advertising, Google Play purchases, automatic crash reporting, analytics telemetry, sharing, support information, retention, and your privacy choices. It is a notice about information handling; accepting these Terms is not a substitute for separate consent where required.
Crash reporting and analytics are enabled by default. You can turn them off or on independently using Crash reports and Analytics in Settings. Turning crash reporting or analytics off does not prevent you from playing Chess. Advertising privacy choices are managed separately through the available Privacy Choices control.
Chess uses Google AdMob and User Messaging Platform for advertising and consent choices; Google Play Billing for purchases; Firebase Crashlytics, Firebase Installations, and Firebase Sessions for reliability diagnostics; and Google Analytics for gameplay telemetry. Those services operate under their own terms and privacy practices. Their availability and operation can affect corresponding game features. We remain responsible for our own obligations and do not guarantee the independent performance of third-party services.
If you share achievement or result content, you choose the destination through Android's sharing interface. You are responsible for content you add and for complying with the destination service's rules.
10. Intellectual property and feedback
Original Chess materials are owned by Keshav Budhiraja. Third-party materials are used under their applicable licences, and notices included with the project identify relevant third-party materials.
If you voluntarily send ideas or suggestions, you allow us to use that feedback to improve the game without payment or an obligation to implement it. This permission does not transfer ownership of unrelated work you send or permit disclosure of personal information contrary to the Privacy Policy. Do not send material you are not entitled to provide.
11. Updates and availability
We may release fixes, balance changes, redesigned features, new content, monetisation changes, or removals for reasonable product, security, legal, or operational reasons. Some features require internet access, compatible hardware, an up-to-date app, working Google Play services, regional availability, or other technical requirements.
We aim to provide a reliable game, but uninterrupted availability, compatibility with every device, permanent preservation of local progress, error-free gameplay, advertising availability, and computer-move quality cannot be promised. To the extent permitted by law, Chess is provided on an “as available” basis without additional implied warranties beyond those the law requires.
Where a change or discontinuation materially affects a paid feature, we will provide any notice, continued access, refund, or other remedy required by applicable law. Nothing here permits us to disregard the description under which a purchase was sold.
12. Ending use and enforcement
You may stop using Chess at any time and uninstall it. Uninstalling may remove local progress and unspent hints; it does not automatically delete provider-held information or create a refund entitlement beyond your applicable rights.
If you materially breach these Terms, engage in fraud, or create a serious security or legal risk, we may take reasonable and proportionate action, including withholding improperly obtained rewards, restricting supported services, or ending your licence to use the game. Immediate action may be necessary for fraud, security, or legal reasons.
You may contact support if you believe action was taken in error. We do not claim a general right to confiscate valid paid entitlements without a lawful basis. Clauses that reasonably need to continue after use ends, including ownership, accrued payment obligations, and applicable limitations of liability, continue to apply.
13. Responsibility and limitations
You are responsible for using a compatible device, protecting access to it, supervising any minor for whom you are responsible, and paying mobile-data or network charges associated with use.
To the extent permitted by applicable law, we are not liable for business losses arising from personal use of the game or for indirect or consequential losses that were not reasonably foreseeable when you agreed to these Terms. We are not responsible for a failure caused solely by events outside our reasonable control where we have taken the steps the law requires.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability for fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation, deliberate misconduct, gross negligence, death or personal injury caused by negligence, or any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited. Nothing removes mandatory rights relating to consumer protection, digital content, privacy, refunds, or remedies. Where a limitation is not permitted, responsibility is determined under applicable law.
14. Applicable law and resolving concerns
These Terms are governed by the laws of India, except that this choice does not deprive you of mandatory protections available under the laws of your usual place of residence.
Please contact us first if you have a concern so that we can try to resolve it. Doing so is not a condition for exercising a legal right or seeking urgent relief. Disputes may be brought before a court or consumer forum with jurisdiction under applicable law, including in your home jurisdiction where the law gives you that right. These Terms do not require private arbitration or waive any non-waivable right to participate in collective proceedings.
15. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms to reflect changes to Chess, connected services, or legal requirements. The revised version will show an updated date and remain available through the in-app legal copy and on the Chess website. We will provide reasonable notice of material changes and obtain agreement where required by law. Changes apply prospectively and do not remove rights already accrued.
Subject to applicable law and any required acceptance, continuing to use Chess after notified changes take effect means the revised Terms apply. If you do not agree, you may stop using the game. Rights concerning existing purchases remain subject to applicable law.
If a provision cannot be enforced, the remaining provisions continue to apply to the extent permitted by law. A delay in enforcing a provision does not waive it. Any transfer of our rights or obligations must preserve your mandatory rights.
